Molly Jochem’s amazing exhibition is over - Congratulations to her for such a successful, phenomenal show!

This is also does it for The Ridge Stop Gallery blog. I am no longer curating the art shows at the café but wish the best for its future.

Thank you so much to the wonderful artists I have had the pleasure of working with this past year - Molly Jochem, Riki Colby, Douglas Hooper, Karen Hinrichs, Troupe de Trash, Debbie Dean and Dolores Guetebier. You are an inspiration!

Thank you also to all those who helped out and supported the gallery -
Debbie, Ludi, Beth, Allan, and Ralph for helping hang the shows.
Pam Jung, thank you for your fantastic support at the Prospector, and Lu at the Nevada County Arts Council.
And huge gratitude to all those fabulous people that came out to the artist’s receptions and especially those that bought art :)

So appreciative,
Kristin

Jazz friends Ludi Hinrichs and Tim Winter Reunite!
Saturday, July 5th, 8-11 pm. at the Coppertop Lounge, 133 Neal St., Grass Valley - $5 cover

After twenty four years, bassist/violist Tim Winter and trombonist/vocalist/pianist Ludi Hinrichs are playing jazz together again, and it’s as if they never skipped a beat!

From Ludi:
“Tim recently moved back to Grass Valley from Austin, Texas. We played at my wife Karen’s art opening back in May, and I was pleased as punch after the first few numbers. I said, “You are the MAN, Tim! He has a great musical approach, in that he is so supportive yet playful, and lots of experience doesn’t hurt, either. Way back in the 80’s ,Tim played viola in the Music in the Mountains orchestra, later in Austin on electric bass with the eclectic band, Acustyka. Now he is back, and we plan to have some fun this Saturday. I hope you can make it down to the very beautifully revamped Coppertop for this sure to be memorable event!”

Post Apocalyptic Happiness and the Eternal Quest for Self: The Fine Art of Molly Jochem

Molly is on a mission. She writes: “I am always striving to uncover an essential truth of human kind, always trying to provide hope and a bit of excitement in my work. I am a firm believer in post apocalyptic happiness, and I try to prophesize about that a bit in my work as well.” Look closely at her art and you will see that her mission is a success. One finds the human experience in her paintings. Multiple layers, patterns and textures form scenes and silhouettes that demonstrate both complexity and optimism.

Originally from Nevada City, Molly now lives in Portland where she exhibits in a variety of cafes and community based galleries. She is the curator for a women’s art show at the music and arts festival, Siren Nation and the organizer for Paint Yer Art Out, a live painting fundraiser.

During the month of July, The Ridge Stop Café is absolutely delighted to host a solo exhibit of Molly Jochem’s paintings. On Saturday, July 5, from 5-7 p.m. the public will have a chance to meet Molly at her Artist Reception at The Ridge Stop Café, located at 29318 Highway 49 in North San Juan.

threads, a preview…

June 23rd, 2008

Our exhibiting artist for the month of july sent me this quote:

“what are we if not a collection, self stitched to self by threads of past lovers, past journeys, hopes and greeds and terrors, like scars, like memory, present in the current day, in the choices we make, in the hungers we indulge”
- Kathe Koja

nets working

June 23rd, 2008

You will notice on the right hand sidebar a new section called “Network”. I have been contemplating what kind of word to use for this category (all sorts of way-too-many-syllables came up - communitymindedartisticinterconnectivity???) but it boiled down to being simply a “Network”. In the local community exists such a concentrate of arts, I wanted to add links to the websites of other local artists and organizations as well.

“Artist” naturally encompassing a variety of disciplines.

Hit the contact page on the right sidebar if you, or someone you know would like to be caught in our little net.

Riki’s reception was lovely, by the way. It was wonderful to see other artists turn out for her reception in support of her work.
(eh, and apologies for such a late post!)
